5 Books for Budding Female Entrepreneurs
“Not all readers are leaders, but all leaders are readers.” - Harry Truman
I absolutely love reading, always have and always will…
There’s something about the smell of a proper book (I much prefer this to a Kindle or reading on my tablet) and getting lost in the story of someone else’s life or the adventures within.
When it comes to blogging and entrepreneurship, there’s so many books out there to help you and I’ve read a lot of them over the years.
Some have been good and some not so great, but you don’t know until you get stuck in right!
The 5 books for budding female entrepreneurs that I’m going to be sharing are amazing and have taught me so much…
They aren’t your average “female” books I’d say, because they haven’t all been written by females and they aren’t solely based on your typical “life story and how I got there” kind of reading (apart from book #2, which was one of my faves) but they all give something different and will really help you when it comes to your entrepreneurial journey…
I really loved reading these 5 books and I know you’re going to love them too!
They’ll give you insights into the entrepreneurial life, organisational skills, some laughs and much, much more…
Let’s take a look at them now…

Book #1 – Rework
By Jason Fried & David Heinemeier Hansson
Although this book was written in 2010 (which seems a lifetime ago as it’s the year I got married) it’s still one of those books which stand out to me and have had a real impact.
Written by two people who have been extremely successful in business over the years, profiting through recessions and changes in business models, the book helps you see that starting and growing a business doesn’t have to be done the “traditional” way you’re used to hearing and seeing.
You don’t have to follow the norm thinking this is the only way you’ll succeed.
They squashed out the ideal, they went above and beyond their own expectations and showed people who thought they couldn’t do it – they could…
This is a fab book to get you to grips with the bare bones of business online.
They break it all down and in their own words “change the way you work forever”.
It’s time to cut out all you’ve been taught and what you think you know about building an online business traditionally and start to rebuild your mindset to a new way of working.
They say that anyone can be in business today because so much is easily accessible and affordable and I you know what, I have to agree…
Check it out, you won’t be disappointed as it’ll change the way you see business as a whole!
Book #2 – #GIRLBOSS
By Sophia Amoruso
This has to be one of my absolute favourite books in the entrepreneurial realm!
Sophia Amoruso started out broke and didn’t have a clue what she was doing with her life!
It all began to change for her when she decided to start selling vintage clothing on eBay…
Forward on a few more years and she founded Nasty Gal – a top selling women’s fashion store online, which turned into a $250 million retailer!
Now that’s something…
She became a true style icon and a much sought after figure within the fashion industry.
Her book takes you on a journey throughout all the chaos and intricate details that is her life and how she went from nothing to something huge!
This is a great read and one I reach for when I need a pick me up and some much needed inspiration.
This book is for all is mummy entrepreneurs who know what we want and won’t stop until we achieve it…
Book #3 - The One Thing
By Gary Keller with Jay Papasan
We all think we can multi-task and you know what, when it comes to life, us mammas are killing it with our multi-tasking, super woman skills…
Here’s to you super mamma – you’re amazing…
But when it comes to our blogs, trying to do too much and too many things at one time can cause complete brain overload.
This is where The One Thing book comes into play!
As humans we want less, but at the same time we want more too and that can be really hard to do…
Gary and Jay share soooooo many tips and strategies to make your life simpler, less stressful and to master what matters most to you.
I found one chapter in the book called “The Success Habit” extremely helpful, as it looks at what ONE Thing you can do in each area of your life to improve it, making your overall life much better and rewarding.
Ever heard the saying “Go big or go home” well that’s great in some things, but in business, not so much.
Not in the thinking aspect, when you’re thinking about what you want to achieve, then of course “thinking big” is a must!
But in the taking action on the things to get you there – this is when “Going Small” wins…
This is exactly what this book is all about – going small and only concentrating on the things that matter the most.
I highly recommend you grab it for a read – it isn’t a New York Times and Wall Street Journal bestseller for nothing.
Book #4 – She Means Business
By Carrie Green
Oh my goodness, this is another awesome book I couldn’t put down!
This books shows you how you can start a business and build it to success…
Carrie has tons of knowledge and experience, especially since she started her first online business at just 20 years old.
She’s always been extremely ambitious and a real “go getter” and this has helped her become the phenomenal entrepreneur she is today.
With valuable advice and exercises for you to complete throughout, this book covers all the bases that are involved and need to be thought about when it comes to starting your online business or blog!
She’s the founder of the Female Entrepreneur Association, where she inspires women from all around the world to pursue their dreams and ambitions…
I learnt a lot from her, as I was a member of her program for well over a year.
She Means Business will not let you down and it’s definitely one for your book shelf!
Book #5 – The 4-Hour Work Week
By Tim Ferriss
Who wouldn’t want to earn a living working only 4 hours a week!
Sounds like heaven right…
The concepts and ways shared in this book are simply amazing!
I love the fact that it pushes away from working your entire life to get to retirement (which is what is drummed into all of us from a young age) and to think about reaching your goals in the here and now…
Tim talks about many, many things including time management, automating systems and how to live your life in the NOW, not the future.
Learn how Tim went from earning $40,000 a year, working 80 hour work weeks to earning $40,000 a month, working only 4 hours a week…
It’s a great read and one that sparks a different way of thinking and living, making you look not only at your business, entrepreneurial side while reading, but your life in general and what you can do to gain the life you want…
So there you have it – 5 books for budding female entrepreneurs like you lovely!
I hope you grab at least one of them and get stuck in…
They really are books to change your mindset and the way you’ll see life as an entrepreneur making your way in the online world.
I know that after recapping over all those books I’ve read personally and loved, it sure has fired me up to carry on moving forward and continue pursuing the life I want.
My blogging journey is one I’m loving and I literally can’t imagine myself doing anything else.
Just writing this post has given me so much motivation to know we can all achieve our goals and our dreams…
If you’re ready to dive right in and start your own mummy blog – go for it, because it’s truly amazing and can open up a whole new world and way of working for you.
It’s such a perfect way to earn money, but still be around for your children and your family.
You won’t regret it!
If you’re a bit apprehensive though and unsure whether starting a blog’s right for you, that’s no worries at all.
We all have those doubts and sometimes you just need a little encouragement from someone to say “hey – you’re awesome and you can do this”.
I’m that someone and trust me, you are awesome and you can do this lovely…
